Using your iPods, respond to the following questions and prompts:

*What do you think is the biggest change that these people made either in their own lives or in the lives of others?

*What is one connection you can make between yourself and something you read in the book?

*After you have answered these questions, ask your classmates a question that you have about the novel. You should also answer one of your classmates' questions.

  1. *The biggest change they made was to get off the streets and become doctors. This way they don't get abducted into streets and get killed

*One connetion that I made is that I really like hanging out with my friends and I find school kind of easy.

*One question I have is what would you do if you stabbed a guy like Rameck and almost killed him, and had to go to court.

  2. 1) I think the biggest change that they had make in other people lives is that they had shown other that everyone can be successful if they work together and never give up.

    2) One connection that I make was that I also want to be a doctor and I like hanging out with my friends.

    3) I will never ever stab anyone in my life again if I stabbed a guy like Rameck and almost killed him, and had to go to court.
My qustion is that did the three doctors have any relationships with another girl when they were in high school or in collage.

  3. I think that the biggest change with the main charcters was in themselves. They all learned how to have discipline, and learned that there is more to just selling drugs as a carrer.
Well there was a time when george had to ask his mom for money for somthing at school. He said it was akward, I have been in the same situation before.
To anwer your question Jack, in real life I would probably through you in jail if I was the judge.
What would you like to be when you grow up? would you stop at nothing to become that?

  4. When I grow up I would like to be a sportscaster.I wouldn't stop until I acheive my goal. the biggest change was the way they came together to get through school.I grew up in some bad areas an still did good in school. Whats the biggest change you have made?

  5. I believe, that a big change happened in the book. This change occured in the characters themselves. They learned that there was a beter life out there than just being on the streets selling drugs and jacking cars. Such as when Rameck went to jail and saw that the only outcome of living the life that he was born into, was failure. That was the biggest change. One connection that I saw between me and the book was that school comes easily to me as it does to Rameck and George.
Why, do you think, that Rameck still hung out with his homies, when he could have hung out with a better crowd (Sampson and George)?
When i grow up, I wanna be either a doctor or something else. something fun. I would stop at nothing to be that thing that I wanna be.

  6. - I think that the biggest change that three doctors had in their life was deciding not to live and die on the streets and go and become doctors. They figured out that the streets were not the rest of their life and that they could be successful.
    - One connection that I can make with the three doctors is that I really like to hang out with friends and so far, I think school is pretty easy.
    - To answer Tomiwa's question, I say that I want to be a video game designer. I would not stop at anything to be that because I think I would be good at it and I would enjoy it.
    - My question is- Why do you think that they decided not to spend their whole lives on the streets?

  7. The greatest change for all three of them are that they came off of the streets to become doctors. In the live of others, becoming doctors, they were able to save peoples' lives.
*I can make a connection that I like to hang out with friends, and go places with friends.
*If you wanted to become a doctor, would you do anything to continue? Would you go against your parents to follow in the dreams that you wanted?

  8. I think the biggest change the three doctors made was to leave their "hoodlum" type neighborhood. Also they went against the bad judgement of their friends.
The connection I have is the first time i went to the doctor I was facinated by the place likse Sampson.
For Varun, I think they wanted a better life than what they had seen for the other people in their neighborhood.
One question I have is why George became a dentist instead of a doctor

  9. To Varun: They didn't spend their lives on the streets because they knew, they would most likely get killed, and have no college education, and become nothing in life. Doing that means that they don't get any money, without selling crack, cocaine, and all that stuff.

I think that the biggest change in their life was wen they met each other. If they hadn't met each other, then they all might have become thugs on the street.

When I grow up, I want to be a NBA player or a meterologist, and I don't want to be doomed to life as a failure.

Would you guys go at the Three Doctors' challlenges like they did?

    To: Go Daddy goooooo
    I am doing fine.

    To: Ben Updik
George wanted to become a dentist because when he got his braces, he was sucked into all the fun of doing what a dentist does. He liked caring for people's hygene, he liked the fact that he could stop people's teeth decay, and he liked all the money that people could get from it.

  13. I Believe that the three friends did have a huge emotional impact on their community. Especially now that they write this book young defavorised kids will look up to them and think: " Wow, you don't have to be a superhero to go to college!" What I mean by that is that kids realize that if you work hard enough and persevere you can achieve your goals. Anybody can go to college if they follow these short rules except if you get into the Streets' vicious circle. Now, kids and others by reading this book realize that they can do it.

One connection I can make between myself and something in the book is the fact that teachers were very important for the three
friends. I have had bad teachers in the past
and it is really hard to stay motivated in
someone's class that you dislike. Here in
America I have always not only liked my teachers but also thought they were good teachers. Just like the three friends teachers are very important to me because if i think they believe in me it makes me thrive for more.

My question to the three friends is have you ever been angry at white police officers for example because some of them had discriminated you in the past? To answer Tomiwa's question I would like to become a journalist when I grow up but I will never put my job before my family ( if I have a family you could be the Uncle!)

  14. I think that the biggest change was when the doctyors decided to go to university high to get a better education

I can relate myself to george when he went to the dentist. i also am really fascinated by all of the tools, equipment, and toothpaste

How do you think Sampsons life would change if he decided to use the money on the portfolio?

Varun- They decided to move from the streets so they could ensure that they have a better future, disgaurding the drugs and violence.

  15. I think that all 3 of the doctors had made a big change when they got smart and stoped hanging out with those kids that were a bad influence on their life because i think that if they didn't meet each other they probably wold have been dead.
The connection that i have with this book is when i was little i used to be a bad little kid that hung out with bad people and did bad things.

One qestion that i have is why didn't they want people to know that they were that smart?

  16. - The change that the three doctors had was their determination to be a doctor rather than living in the 'streets', hoping to survive a day. It would've been hard to cut down all the temptations from drugs, gangs etc.
    - One connection that I had was I had the same thought and the determination like they did.
    - Varun - They didn't want a risky life like the others. They wanted to get out from the 'streets' and have a successful life with a good, comfortable environment to live.
    - One question that I have is why didn't the mom of the boy who got smashed headfirst by Rameck in college didn't charge any fee to him?
