  2. i think that when heather finds out what happened at the party she she will feel bad for melinda. if the students at school find out they will not be mad any more but hate the person who hurt her.

  3. The challenge is melinda being an outcast at school. I think she will get bullied more by the students. I think she will deal with the conflict by finally talking about it to someone. What do you think happened to melinda?

  5. Melinda has faced many chllenges so far. One challenge is having to be at a new school. Books get knocked out of her hands and she doesn't have but one friends except for heather. Heather and Melinda are outcasts and don'treally think of themselves as good friends. Melinda also doesn't good grades and struggles to fit in at school and at home. I think that some obstacles that will arise are that she will have trouble if she decides to tell everyone about what happened at the party. Melinda refers to someone in the hallway as IT. I think that IT may have something to do with the party. Who do you think IT is? And why do you think she doesn't tell us the real name of IT.

  6. There are many challenges that I've read about so far. One is the the challenge that Melinda is facing. She called the cops at a party over the summer and now every one hates her. Her only friend, Heather is also facing a challemge. Sje wants to ne part of a group, but no one is letting her join. Finally, a group called the Marthas says she can join on probation. Do you think Heather should have joined the group, or waited for a group that would let her be more involved in their actions?

  7. one chalenge is that Everyone at mlindas high school hates her becAuse she called the copes at the end of the year party. I think everyone is gonna find ouut about what really happened at the party and aparently mlindas dosent want thatt to happen. I think milnda will react the same way she dose now just egnor it.

My question: why do you think milinda dosent want people to know what really happened at the party??

  8. melinda has had lots of troble with the other kids. the reason is because that at the last party of the summer she called the cops.i predict that heather will stop being her friend because the marthas tould her to and they will then turn on heather. i think heather will try to be melindas friend again. though melinda wont want to be her friend.
my question: Why dont any of melindas friends ask her why she called the cops?

  9. The main challenge is melinda being a outcast. A challenge that i think will occur is I that heather will push her aside if she joins a group. If that happens then i think melinda will tell someone the truth about the party so that she can have a new friend.

  10. I think the challeges in the book are that melinda is having a hard time finding friends. Everyone thinks that since she called the cops, she is bad. No one even triedto ask her why she called the cops, they just thought that she did it for fun. Ithink that melinda will have to fAce her fears and tell someone. I think people wont beleive herat first but theywill then learn that she isnt lieing. Why doesnt she justtell someone and why do people hate her just for calling thecops? If they got arrested, its their fault.

  11. in the book speak, Melinda Sordino is struggling to fit in at a new high school. its bad enough that everyone hates her for calling the cops at the end of summer party. I think that Heather will ditch Melinda for the marthas. Melinda will have to tell someone her secret. I think Melinda will get so mad that sh will tell rachel her secret. My question: how do you think people know it was melinda who called the cops?

  12. In the book Speak by Lairie Halse Anderson, Melinda Sordino is struggling to fit into her new high school and has absolutely no friends because she called the cops at the end of year summer party. Heather and Melinda become good friends, but are outcast and are having a hard time trying to fit into groups at school. Since Heather is apart of the Marthas now, I think that Heather will ask the Marthas if they can accept Melinda into their group, but the Marthas will ignore Heather's request. Soon Heather will stop talking to Melinda and they won't be friends with Melinda anymore. Why is Melinda having a hard time speaking and her lips and throat are sore?

  13. The challenges that I have read about so far are the she has only one friend (Heather) and that she called the cops at Kyle Rodger's end of the school year party and now everyone hates her. She had friends in middle school (last year) but they hate her too. I think that Melinda will end up telling the Art teacher what happened because she seems to really like him or I think she might tell her old friend Ivy (who is in Art with her) or Rachelle. I think that if she told her old friends, they would want to help her and/or be her friend again because they didn't understand what happened before but if she tells them, they'll understand. A question that I have is Why Is Melinda scared to tell people, don't you think it would make her life so much easier and/or better?

  14. In the first forty pages of "Speak," Melinda faces many challenges. These include an annoying friend, dropping grades, sceptical teachers, worried parents, and most importantly, having all her fellow high-schoolers hate her. Melinda constantly stutters and freezes up when talking with people, so I predict that she will probably end up not talking to others at all. I do not think anyone will really notice this or care, with the exception of Heather. Eventually Melinda will have to tell someone the truth about what really happened on the night of Kyle Rodgers's party. I think the kids at Melinda's highschool will be surprised when they find out why she called the cops and crashed the end of year party. Madison F. asked why Melinda is scared to tell people. I think Melinda is scared because either she saw or experienced something at the party that scarred her for life, or she is embarrassed about whatever happened at the party. What do you think happened that would make Melinda call the cops?

  15. Melinda called the police at an end of a summer party. All of her friends left her and wouldn't let her explain. I think Melinda's new friend Heather will pick being popular over her. Melinda will have trouble telling someone what happened at the party. I think Melinda will start to feel alone and will be able to focus one her art.
Who do you think Melinda will confide in, if anyone at all?

  16. Melinda faces many challenges in "Speak." These challenges are because Melinda called the cops at an end of the school year party. Melinda is the only one who knows why she called the cops and she wants it to stay that way. Now, people Melinda knows and doesn't know are hating her from afar and she is truly alone. Antagonizing teachers and peers make the secret she is holding inside of her more unbearable and soon, it will eat her up. Melinda's grades (another challenge) start to drop, so much so that her uncaring parents are taking an interest in her life. The only person she has to calling a friend is a new girl named Heather. However, this changes soon, Heather has already left her for the Marthas, a perfect group whom Melinda just cannot fit into. I predict Melinda will become mute and will not utter a word until she gains the confidence to tell what happened at the party. Melinda will eventually tell the secret that has been corrupting her in the eyes of her peers ever since the party happened. I also predict her peers will be in complete shock and will learn not to judge without having all of the information. What do you think Melinda's life will be like after she tells her classmates the truth about what happened the night at the party?

  17. i think that melinda got raped or sexually abused at the party. she was only in 8th grade when this happened. she must've been very traumatizee by this. she is afraid to talk to people about it she thinks that it will go away if she doesn't talk about it. i think that her lips and throat hurt because she doesn't want to talk. she doesn't want to talk because she might tell someone, and by not talking, peoplebwill leave her alone. her real major conflicts are being a teenager, dealing with getting raped, and not having friends

so far in the book speak there havent been very many real conflicts. the main one was between melinda and the girl who was sitting behind her on rhw bleachers during that school assembly. the girl recognised melinda and got reaply mad because her brother had been busted at that party. i think that that was the only real conflict so far because has been lack of action and weird looks and those things do not count to me. she made a friend, heather; but i don't think that heather is a very good friend necause she didnt do anything when melinda was being bullied in the bleachers. personally inthink that it would be better to have no friends than a friend like heather who is so unlike you a d takes so much more than she gives. i think that the book makes it pretty obvious with hints, forezhadowing, and the stuff on the back flap that she or somene she knows got raped or killed ( probably raped) at the party and that is why she called the. ops. i thnk that its foing to get out somehow that she was raped at the party, but people wont really care and will still bw mad that she stopped the party, but there will probably be some sweet understanding person who realizes how awful it was and that melinda was right to call the cops.

The main problem in the story is that Melinda called the cops at the end of the year party (8th grade). Now that she's in high school, people dislike her for it. She tries to forget what happened at the party and I assume from what I read, she got raped. I could've assumed that before Mr. Horton talked to some other classes. So, she doesn't want anyone to know about it but wants her old friends to ask what happened, which is inconsistent. And later, she describes a person or a thing to IT. I predict that this is the person who abused her at the party and that's why she called the cops.

By the title called SPEAK, I think that eventually people find out and later Melinda goes to a trial and face it.

  20. The Challenge that we know about so far is that Melinda called the police on the end of year party, so that nobody likes her anymore. I think that Heather will not want to be her friend any more, beccuase Melinda is so depressed. I think this might affect Melinda and she might kill herself or run away.

The question I have is what happened at the party that made melinda so sad and depressed and quiet.

  21. So far in Speak I have read about
Melinda's problem with IT I think
    something happened to here that
traumatized her, she is feeling really bad
because her only friend is a very annoying
girl who is always so outgoing which Melinda
    finds VERY annoying.
